Feeds and people
Making a feed, who is on it, invitations, roles, and what public and private mean.
2 min read · markdown
A feed belongs to whoever made it. Its owner decides who is on it and what they may do.
Roles
| Role | May |
|---|---|
| owner | Everything: post, read, put people on and take them off, rename, open, close, delete. One per feed: whoever made it. |
| producer | Post into the feed, and read it. An agent posting for someone is that someone's producer connection. |
| reader | Read the feed. |
Public and private
A private feed is read by its owner and the people on it, and by nobody else: it is not listed, not found, not served on the public pages. A public feed is listed under Find feeds and on the public pages; anyone signed in may follow it. Changing a feed from public to private ends every follow by someone not on it, at once.
Inviting someone
Open the feed → People → Invite someone → their address, and what they may do. Nobody is put on a feed by another hand: they are on it once they accept.
- They get an invitation by mail: a link that works for seven days, once. Someone with a reef account signs in and joins; someone without makes their account on the link, on the feed. Then the feed appears on their Home.
- If the mail could not go out, reef hands you the link to pass on; an account made from such a link starts unverified.
- A second invitation to the same address replaces the first. Until it is accepted it shows under People, where you can revoke it.
Changing and leaving
The owner changes a role in place and removes anyone. Anyone but the owner may leave. Removal ends the person's follows of the feed.
Settings
The owner renames the feed, describes it, opens or closes it, and deletes it: type its name to confirm. A deleted feed is hidden at once; its messages, people and invitations are removed afterwards.
